Jackdaw Workshops

May, Sara and Tony work from a small studio in the rural Sussex countryside. They are a family of makers working with different materials, creating work inspired by the natural world.

May’s work is deeply rooted in heritage crafts, and she wishes to communicate and encourage others to engage with potentially endangered crafts.

Sara is a designer-maker working with a range of materials, recently focusing on metal and clay. A small sculptural piece inspired by year-round sea swimmers was selected to show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the summer of 2022.

Tony is a painter inspired by the local surroundings and the human impact on the natural world. Alongside this, he has completed commissioned pet portraits and cannot resist the lure of clay and hand-built ceramics.
