Michael Morpurgo & John Hunter – The Fields that Heal
27/06/2021 at 16:15 – 17:15
Michael Morpurgo, poet, playwright, librettist and author of much-loved children’s literature, such as War Horse, Muck and Magic and The Puffin Keeper, shares his experience of the healing and nourishment that can be found for children and families in nature, in conversation with John Hunter, the author of The Fields that Heal, a story of the incredible work performed by the charity Dandelion Time.
Michael Morpurgo and his wife Clare founded Farms for City Children at Nethercott House in Devon in 1976. The charity offers urban children from all over the country a unique opportunity to live and work together for a week at a time on a real farm in the heart of the countryside. This talk will explore how the natural world has played a central world in both his widely celebrated books and his philanthropic work.
Dandelion Time offers help to children with challenging emotional issues, often resulting from trauma, violence or serious health difficulties in the family. The charity’s approach is family-based and creates opportunities for new beginnings and improved relationships, recognising the importance of being in a peaceful natural environment, absorbing children in calming hands on activities.
A proportion of proceeds from this event will be donated to Dandelion Time.
