Sustainability is fundamental to us. We are constantly striving to make reduce the carbon footprint of Wealden Festival and other events organised by Wealden Festival Foundation.
Our acclaimed programme of talks and debates, and artistic responses to the natural world, directly addresses the relationship between people and the environment and shines a light on some of the most critical issues of our times.
In order to mitigate the environmental impacts of creating a live festival, we have developed a number of initiatives designed to reduce our carbon footprint.
Working in conjunction with sustainable waste contractors, we operate a comprehensive waste management system through which we seek to recycle the maximum amount of waste produced on site.
We also reward anyone attending the Festival under their own steam (i.e. without the use of a motor vehicle) or who travel to the Festival through car-sharing by placing them into a raffle with a chance to win book vouchers. Wealden Festival also reduces the environmental impact of travel to/from the Festival site by providing regular public buses from the nearest train station in Ashford.
We have also introduced a cup scheme that offers a discount to anyone who uses their own re-usable cups at our food and drink outlets. All our food and drink suppliers are chosen due to their environmental credentials and focus on local, sustainable food.
