It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to cancel the fifth Wealden Literary Festival which was due to take place on 27 and 28 June 2020.
This is as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the profound effect it is having on all our lives. Public health guidelines urge against social contact and making non-essential journeys and, at present, it is not clear how long these measures will remain in place.
We are sure that you, our wonderful supporters, will share our disappointment that our annual gathering in celebration of literature, art and the natural world will not be taking place this year.
We were looking forward to welcoming you to Boldshaves and to hearing from our line-up of inspirational speakers and contributors at a time when nature needs as strong a voice as ever.
This hard work won’t go to waste, but we do need your help.
Wealden Festival Foundation is a charity and its income is a mix of ticket sales, sponsorship and charitable funding. Grants that have supported the charity’s work in the past have this year been diverted to other more immediately pressing causes, which whilst completely understandable has significant implications for us.
Having to cancel this year’s event means that we now need to raise urgent funds in order to help safeguard the future of the Festival.
We have launched a fundraising campaign to ensure we can return next year with a packed programme of nature-inspired author events, workshops, hands-on activities and a dedicated timetable for younger readers and nature-lovers.
If you can support us directly please donate through our GoFundMe page and feel free to share the page online.
After such a long time separated from family and friends, and with time outdoors severely limited, we will all need something to look forward to. We hope you can support us through this very challenging time. Every donation will take us a step closer to being able to share with you the next instalment of Wealden Literary Festival which we hope will take place on 26 & 27 June 2021.
Thank you. Stay safe and well,
Wealden Literary Festival Team
